Not trying to single you out — but you did post here. The answer is yes – but will it be funded? Yes, I’m saying he’s responsible for the negative repercussions of his book.
This guy should pay back every dime people have donated, personally.
When our heroes turn out to kraksuer sleazebags, self-deception is easier than facing the facts. When donors entrust their money to an agency, they deserve accurate accounting as to where their money is going. When someone donates, especially in these times when fewer people can donate or must donate less, the donor wants to know that his money is being used wisely, is being stretched as far as it can for the purpose intended.
Basically Mortensen exaggerated his original story, lied about being kidnapped by the Taliban, and misused funding. This is an important consideration, as many of Krakauer’s sources in Three Cups of Deceit have accused him of distorting facts, twisting words, and purposefully misquoting them. Was his crusade really inspired by a desire to repay the kindness of villagers who nursed him back to health when he became lost on his descent down K2?
Thankfully, Mortenson only used his skill to inspire a lot of people to give to what was a truly worthy cause. Everest expedition in his book Into Thin Airso his claims should be taken with a pinch of salt. Thrde I suppose Mortenson should be the one to bear the blame for all of it? I’m sorry to say that I think everything in this book is accurate.

Staff at CAI are mostly devoted to supporting the promotional activities, Krakauer says, rather than actually getting schools staffed and functioning.
In fact Hall was freezing to death on top. I agree with Krakauer’s conclusion from his painstaking research and do not see how Greg Mortenson can stay at the helm of the Central Asia Institute. Then Relin came to speak.
